The Gathering Inn

THE GATHERING INN (4TH Tuesday each month)
WHO THEY ARE:
The Gathering Inn is a non-profit organization for the homeless with an administrative and local facility in Roseville. They have given us the opportunity to support them through our church from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., with a current commitment of the 4th Tuesday of each month. Before they are transported by bus to our location, they are provided specialized services, screening, showers, clean clothes and bedrolls. TGI does this each night with a different local participating church. The homeless guests are accompanied by monitors from TGI who stay with them overnight and are responsible for them. We do not stay overnight with the guests.
WHO WE ARE:
Within our timeframe, we provide a home-style evening to include a brief, but spiritual, message that may be in the form of a designated speaker, video clip, or skit, a nutritious dinner, live music, and special activities for their enjoyment in the evening that may include games, making occasion cards or other crafts, and may also include unique services that anyone from our church can provide; one such service included giving haircuts last month. We encourage fellowship by sitting at our guests’ dining tables or visiting after the meal, participating in the crafts or games, prayer team, meal preparation and serving, clean up, and monetary support. We are a self-supported ministry using your generous donations to purchase food and necessities for the evening. This ministry is to provide nonjudgmental fellowship and conversation with our local homeless population, to establish relationship and help “the least of these” as a way to serve God through His people.
COMMITMENT:
We encourage you to sign up to help prior to each TGI, or if you have ideas for a TGI event by calling Toni Ley 916-624-4661, or Pat DeCroix 916-652-0420. Once you are on our Email list, you will be sent an Email 2 weeks prior to each event for convenient signup. We will honor your place of service preference, but appreciate flexibility for your service in areas that need help that evening. If you wish to make a donation, you may designate TGI on the memo of your check and put it in the offering basket or box on the back wall of the sanctuary. These are the ongoing areas of service for each event:
- Set up (remove chairs and replace with tables for eating/serving)
- Fellowship with guests at table
- Servers (food line, cafeteria style)
- Help in kitchen shift 1 (food/dishes/condiments/coffee/drinks ready for guests)
- Help in kitchen shift 2 (clean up/wash-dry dishes).
- Guest Speaker/skit ideas (10 minutes), must be approved before presentation
- Music
- Other gifts/talents you wish to provide for the guests, or organize a specialty event
- Help pick up donated items
- 6:00 a.m. church inspection (check-off list for TGI).
DO YOU KNOW ANYONE:
- Who has restaurant connections for one-time meal donation or partial meal for 70-75?
- Who has connections to a coffee shop/bakery for breakfast items for donation?
- Who has a group within our church network that want to provide or prepare dinner meal, partial meal, breakfast, or dessert?
- Who wants to provide specific needed items for one event or monthly commitment?
- Who wants to share their God-given gifts/talents to educate at an event?
- Who wants to ………..THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX? As you can see, our needs are diverse and many, and your suggestions are welcome!
